Our client is the largest independent industrial paint manufacturer who which to appoint several chemists (at junior and senior level) to work on technical projects involving formulation and design of new products and reformulation of existing projects.
You will be an enthusiastic and driven individual ideally with industrial/decorative paint formulating experience.
Responsibilities:
- Design, formulation and testing of solvent and water based paints, coatings and finishes for a range of applications.
- Involvement with long term project and liaison with production, quality and commercial departments.
- Provide technical advice and support to new and existing customers, ensuring quality of product is maintained. This may include travel to customer sites in the UK.
- Responsible for scaling up of formulations for initial trials and ultimately commercial batches.
- To contribute to the development of the product range so that commercial opportunities can be best exploited.
- Provide QC documentation and procedures for raw materials and finished products.
- Maintain the laboratory and supplies to comply with legislation and HSE.
- To manage the Safety Data Sheet system where necessary
- Liaison with suppliers and sourcing of new materials to meet changes in legislation.
- Keep up to date with current legislation and support the production of relevant regulatory documentation.
Candidate Profile
- All levels of experience in the development and formulation of solvent and water based paints and coatings (Alkyd, Epoxy, Polyurethane systems) will also be considered.
- To be competent in the safe operation of equipment, including; general lab equipment & ovens, calibration of laboratory equipment, operation of accelerated weathering cabinets, operation of pilot line (with the appropriate training).
- Can produce panels for accelerated tests and is aware of the chemistry of degradation and corrosion.
- Familiar with the operation of paint application equipment
- Degree not essential depending on role
- Able to work independently and manage own projects, keeping time and budget restraints.
- Confident communicator, proven skills in technical presentation would be advantageous ideally with experience in paint application methods.
- Understand and interpret coating specifications.
- Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
